my guess is that you have taken both pictures in evening time and indoors...
great composition, but I would have liked it more if there would have been more light, esp on the first picture on the right side!..
tip: to gain more light in evening, use a white background! If you have a flash bounce, that would doubly help!

hmm..the first one is indoors and the second one was under shade....
